Abstract

Home-Based Entrepreneurship in the Information Age
The past decade has seen a dramatic increase in the number of home-based business operations. The genesis for this growth can be traced to a variety of factors including the development of inexpensive computing and telecommunication technologies. These new devices and services have rejuvenated certain existing operations and given rise to a new breed of home-based business that is centered on information. The research reported in this paper was directed toward a comparison between the owners of these data rich small businesses and the operators of more traditional home-based firms.

Les entreprises à domicile à l’ère de l’information

Résumé

Depuis dix ans, le nombre des entreprises à domicile s’accoît à une vitesse effarante. Ce phénomène est généralement attribué à une foule de facteurs, dont la baisse du prix des ordinateurs et l’émergence des télécommunications abordables. Ces nouveautés ont remis certains métiers au goût du jour et donné naissance à une nouvelle race d’entreprises qui se nourissent quotidiennement du traitement de l’information sous une forme ou une autre. L’étude citée dans cet article établit des comparaisons entre les propriétaires des micro-entreprises de l’ère de l’information et les exploitants des firmes à domicile plus traditionnelles.
