Abstract

Rejecting the “trait” approach to entrepreneurs, this paper analyses the relationship between the entrepreneur and entrepreneurship through an examination of Gartner’s (1990) “What Are We Talking About When We Talk About Entrepreneurship?” and some recent entrepreneur typologies. Similarities, differences, and weaknesses are discussed, especially in regard to the innovation themes inherent in entrepreneurship and entrepreneur typologies. A conceptual typology of entrepreneurs is offered that attempts to offer a broad concept of the entrepreneur while establishing clearer, more researchable categories of entrepreneurs based on innovation-type.
