ABSTRACT

Effective entrepreneurship behaviours were developed empirically using survey data from 34 entrepreneurs. The data were then systematically collapsed into a 9-criterion, 47-item measurement instrument comprised of Behavioural Observation Scales (BOS; Latham and Wexley 1977). The resulting BOS now can be used in a variety of applications, including coaching and developing entrepreneurs, identifying the training needs of prospective entrepreneurs, and for evaluating the effectiveness of entrepreneurial training programs. The paper concludes with a discussion of implications for practice and a description of future research that can enhance the efficacy of the instrumentation.

SOMMAIRE

Les comportements qui caractérisent les entrepreneurs efficaces ont été identifiés de façon empirique en utilisant des données recueillies dans le cadre d’un sondage auprès de 34 entrepreneurs. Les données furent ensuite regroupées et synthétisées systématiquement pour en faire un instrument de mesure comportant 47 items et neuf critères et composé d’échelles d’observation des comportements (Behaviour Observation Scales; Latham and Wexley, 1977). Les échelles d’observation des comportements qui en résultent peuvent être utilisées dans divers champs d’intervention, y compris la formation professionnelle des entrepreneurs, l’identification des besoins en formation des entrepreneurs éventuels ainsi que l’évaluation de l’efficacité des programmes de formation des entrepreneurs. Cette étude conclut avec une discussion des retombées de l’étude ainsi qu’une description des recherches à venir ayant comme objectif de rehausser l’efficacité de l’instrumentation actuelle.
