An Ethnographic Study of Entrepreneurship Among the Sámi People of Finland

ABSTRACT. This article reports the findings of ethnographic research conducted in Finland. Respondents describe changes brought about by European Union regulations and Finnish laws that lack cultural sensitivity thereby transforming the nature of traditional Sámi entrepreneurship. Many of these indigenous people have had to start an additional business or work elsewhere to make ends meet.

SOMMAIRE. Cet article présente les résultats d’une recherche ethnographique menée en Finlande Les répondants décrivent les changements apportés par les régulations de l’Union européenne et les lois finnoises qui, manquant de sensibilité culturelle, transforment la nature de l’entrepreneuriat Sami traditionnel. Beaucoup de ces indigènes ont dû se lancer dans une entreprise supplémentaire ou bien travailler ailleurs afin de joindre les deux bouts.
