SOMMAIRE. Si les aides sont nombreuses pour assurer le démarrage des PME, le coaching apparaît comme une approche originale et « sur mesure » permettant à l’entrepreneur novice d’améliorer ses habiletés managériales ou d’en développer de nouvelles. La présente recherche a pour but d’évaluer l’efficacité de ce type d’approche en milieu de PME et plus particulièrement d’identifier les facteurs susceptibles d’avoir un impact sur le succès d’une telle intervention. L’objet de recherche est le programme de coaching mis en place à l’Incubateur virtuel d’entreprises de la Mauricie au Québec. Les résultats suggèrent qu’une configuration de « conditions gagnantes » doivent être réunies pour qu’une intervention de coaching puisse réussir, la plus déterminante étant
toutefois l’ouverture au changement manifestée par l’entrepreneur coaché.

ABSTRACT. Although plenty of measures are available to help the startup of SMEs, coaching seems to be an original, tailored approach that helps new entrepreneurs improve their managerial skills and to develop new ones. The goal of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of this type of approach in a SME environment and, more specifically, to identify factors that could have an impact on the success of such an intervention. The study focuses on the coaching program established in Quebec at the Incubateur virtuel d’entreprises de la Mauricie. The results suggest that a number of "winning conditions" must be present for a coaching intervention to succeed-the most important one is that the entrepreneur being coached must be open to change.
