ABSTRACT. The authors of this paper examine the current state of undergraduate entrepreneurship education. After critiquing the spectrum of liberal and vocational elements of education and the importance of each, a new framework, “Shared Values Framework for Entrepreneurship Education,” is proposed and evaluated. Institutions’ undergraduate entrepreneurship literature and course material are analysed through content analysis, followed by 12 semi-structured, in-depth interviews with educators working in the field. Findings indicate that as a whole, undergraduate entrepreneurship education is underdeveloped and educators positioned in the field face challenges in three major areas: political tensions, philosophical dilemmas and implementation struggles. The authors conclude with recommendations to support entrepreneurship educators in their practice.

SOMMAIRE. Les auteurs de cet article examinent la situation actuelle de l’éducation du premier cycle en entrepreneuriat. Après une critique de l’éventail des éléments libéraux et professionnels en éducation et de leur importance propre, ils proposent et évaluent un « cadre des valeurs partagées en éducation pour l’entrepreneuriat ». La documentation et le matériel pédagogiques du premier cycle de l’entrepreneuriat subissent une analyse de contenu, suivie de 12 entrevues en profondeur et semi-structurées avec des éducateurs pertinents. Les résultats indiquent que l’éducation du premier cycle en entrepreneuriat est dans l’ensemble sous-développée, et que les éducateurs concernés affrontent des défis dans trois domaines principaux : tensions politiques, dilemmes philosophiques, et difficultés de mise en application. Les auteurs offrent en conclusion des recommandations pour aider dans leur pratique les éducateurs en entrepreneuriat.
